US Government asked Google to remove police brutality videos

According to the Guardian, the US Government asked Google to remove videos of police brutality on its Youtube video sharing mega-site but the technology giant declined

US police have come under increasing pressure from the American public for record number of police brutality videos that are increasing in frequency and level of violence and senselessness.

Videos of old women and paraplegics being beaten or slammed to the ground is really causing revolt in the minds of the average American and more and more of them are campaigning against such brutal police tactics, which they claim started rising after the 9-11 attack on the Word Trade Centre twin towers in New York.

Many US skeptics continue to insist that the attack was planned by the US Government as a way of increasing surveillance and encroaching into the well-protected individual rights of Americans.

Fallen Idol" Steven Tyler falls in shower and breaks two teeth

Steven Tyler, lead singer of the US rock group Aerosmith, was admitted Tuesday to a private hospital in Paraguay for treatment after apparently falling over in his hotel room, a report said.

The singer, who had been scheduled to perform with his long-running band in the capital later Tuesday, was reported to have suffered a cut eyebrow and injuries to his mouth including two broken teeth in the fall, said the newspaper ABC on its website.

The 62-year-old, who has also had stints as a celebrity judge on the US talent show "American Idol," was treated for the injuries, according to the report citing witnesses in the La Costa hospital. - AFP

Obama getting more desperate as re-election looms

Change is good but people want more
America's first black president, or at least non-white president, started off on a high but is now struggling worse than anyone could imagine four years ago.

His promise of change seemed so uplifting and needed by America but, as anyone knows making a promise is one thing, keeping it is quite another thing.

Obama's failure to keep his promise of bringing home American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan can still be blamed on the system resisting his efforts but breaking his promise to keep lobbyists out of the White House and the Capitol Hill rang very hollow now that his Administration has the longest roster of lobbyists-turned cabinet members and administrators in the history of the country.

AS re-election looms, Obama is becoming desperate, to the extent of getting the State Department to spend USD70,000 on his memoirs, 'Dream of My Father'

Obi-wan has also been spending time with Hollywood bigwigs recently, in the hope that perhaps they could polish his image a bit...maybe do a movie about a heroic black president or something...wait a minute..that's been done...oh well, somethig else then.

Obama's efforts may nosedive if a comedy about the White House goes to production.

Apparently national network NBC has just ordered a pilot episode on a comedy about the White House from Obama's  former speechwriter, John Lovett.

Apparently the set-up is about a dysfunctional comedy that happens to live in 1600, Pennsylvania Avenue, the White House.

Aaah, the love he is showing for his former boss.

Zuckerberg Is Selling Private Facebook Information To Highest Bidders

Source, COLN

DELETE YOUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNTS!  It turns out, the machinery for exploiting your own information, EVEN THAT SHARED ONLY WITH A FEW FRIENDS has been perfected so that TOTAL STRANGERS seeking to control  you, will have access to ALL your information which many people think, is only for their own friends and family, for example!

Frodo, throw Zuckerberg into the Mt. Doom!  Now!
Zuckerberg lays down the law: One timeline to rule them all – Ideas@Innovations – The Washington Post

This year’s event brought the boldest proclamation yet of Zuckerberg’s Law — a Moore’s Law of sorts for the social media generation. Loosely stated, it means that the amount of content that can be shared online doubles roughly every 12 months. If you shared 50 things this year, you’ll share 100 things next year. The best part about this exponential growth in shared content, from Mark Zuckerberg’s perspective, is that Facebook is now finally positioned to profit from all the sharing and “like”-ing that’s going on across the Web. (Full disclosure: The Washington Post Co.’s chairman and chief executive, Donald E. Graham, is a member of Facebook’s board of directors.)

Berita itu mengolah kenyataan dan sikap Pengerusi Himpun Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid yang membalas balik kenyataan Pas yang tidak mahu terbabit dengan majlis himpunan sejuta umat itu. The Evolving National Debt Ceiling: Does Malaysia Need A Fiscal Responsibility Act?

National economic policies and politics can be quite difficult to understand, here we have blogger Pure Shiite breaking down the current national debt issue and asks whether we need a new law to regulate it.

If you are economically inclined, Pure Shiite's articles are usually very well researched and relatively easy to understand.

Here is an excerpt from his article:

The national debt level is governed by various acts of parliament that impose a debt ceiling for the government. In accordance with Act 637 Loan (Local) Act 1959 (revised 2004) and Act 275 Government Investment Act 1983, the combined loans raised locally should not exceed a ceiling of 55% of the nation’s GDP.

Act 403 External Loans Act 1963 (revised 1989) limits the external loans exposure to RM35 billion at any particular time.

On top of the debt ceiling imposed by the acts, the national treasury also follows strict guidelines to strengthen the fiscal discipline, even before my tenure as the Finance Minister.

For example, the proposed operational budget for a particular year should never exceed the revenue projection.

Why Anwar doesn't dare debate the budget?

We know that Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has challenged Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak to a debate about the budget but some quarters from BN, says Anwar is actually chickening out from the debate already.

They point out that a lively debate is going on in Parliament about the budget at the moment and Anwar is free to point out his objections and get answers to any queries from the PM and/or other ministers.

Who leaked the story about Lim Guan Eng's son?

Gambar sekadar hiasan.
It is no secret that when Lim Guan Eng was made the Chief Minister of Penang, it shook the DAP hierarchy in the state, not least, the party's state chairman may have felt that he should carry that responsibility and not an import from Malacca.

Of course, DAP has always planted Lim Kit Siang and Karpal Singh in Penang in the hope that they may take the helm if the state ever fell into their hands and LGE's ascension to the state top post should not come as a surprise.

Nonetheless, there are many within the DAP that are not happy with LKS and LGE treating the party like their family business.

In Penang that unhappiness has been simmering close to boiling point with some complaining that the CM is not as he is portrayed in the Opposition media.

If the story about Lim Guan Eng's son turns out to be true then it could only have come out from the politician's inner circle.

The story continues to rile LGE accusing anti-Pakatan bloggers of spreading lies about him but in reality they only hinted at the personalities involved  as VVIP from a northern state.

"We did not have all the facts but we knew we had a story so we did not dare put the name into our blogs.

"After the first story came out we met a few people from DAP and they added the detail about the RM200,000 but we still had no concrete proof, only added confirmation that the story may be true after all.

"Malaysiakini was the one who put two and two together and went to ask LGE, if they did nto ask LGE the public would still be guessing which VVIP and son are involved," said Pisau.Net when asked by Pantai Reporter.

Simmer came to a boil when pro-Pakatan newsportal, Malaysiakini dug up the dirt after pro-Pakatan bloggers charged that the VVIP must be a BN politician, reasoning that only BN people would have RM200,000 to pay off the victim.

Having stumbled on some details, Malaysiakini then asked LGE about the veracity of the story and he blew his top, blaming anti-Pakatan bloggers for the story.

In Susan Loone's story, she went to Heng Ee School in Penang to get confirmation and reported that the picture being played in some of the blog are not of the actual victim.

That statement indicates that the case did take place and the victim is known to the school, it's just that the pictures used by bloggers are of the wrong person.

Malaysiakini's report further showed that a student was transfered from Heng Ee to St Xavier.

So now we know that the molest case actually happened but we do not know for sure that it involves Lim Guan Eng's son, who, coincidentally, was also transferred from Heng Ee to St Xavier earlier this year.

Lynas has no permit to ship rare earth ore into Malaysia.

Source: Bernama via The Mole

The International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti), in a joint statement today, said Lynas was not authorised to import any rare earth ore into the country without the prior approval of the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB).

"AELB has made it clear that no such approval was ever given," the statement said, adding that for the importation of rare earth ore into Malaysia, a would-be importer must be issued a two-stage authorisation.

On October 7, Miti, Mosti, AELB and other relevant agencies met leaders of the Anti-Lynas Coalition to clarify issues surrounding the Lynas controversy and to hear views of those who were opposed to the project.

At the meeting, the anti-Lynas representative told Miti they had information Lynas was planning to import rare earth ore in October via Kuantan Port. -- Bernama

Raja Nong Chik: Reduce reliance on cars, use public transport instead

Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin said the current growth in the number of motor vehicles in Malaysia is contributing to the traffic congestion that is costing the country billions in lost productivity.
He said that the number of cars on the road have grown between eight to 12 per cent for the last five years, and equally worrying is the fact that more people are now relying on private vehicles for transportation compared to those using public transportation.
Answering a question by DAP Member of Parliament, Dr Tan Seng Giaw, Raja Nong Chik said that the ratio now is 85:15, in favour of private transportation.
Tan wanted to know what steps the Government is taking to improve the quality of public transportation in the city.
The minister said that the conditions of roads in the city is satisfactory and there are enough roads to cater to the needs of the capital however the attitude of road users, together with accidents and road maintenance work all contribute towards traffic congestion.
He added that the Government is constantly improving the quality of roads as well as its network and there is also a concerted move to further improve the level of public transportation in the city

Michael Chong: Malaysians don’t deserve to be called maid abusers

The Star

Malaysia does not deserve the reputation that its people abuse maids as the majority of employers treat domestic workers well, said MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong.

He said the general statement that human rights groups had made about the employers did not paint a “true picture” as many treated their maids kindly and treated them like family members.

Chong stressed that most Malaysians did not tolerate maid abuse and were quick to report to the authorities so that errant employers would be punished.

“The maids whom I've met were brought over by neighbours who rescued them from their employers.”

Haphazard and indiscriminate planning is causing a lot of suffering to dispossessed Lembah Pantai traders.

In repeat of the Little India hawker episode, the traders are being told by KL City Hall (DBKL) to move their businesses to a temporary centre off Jalan Pantai Permai.

They will have to share the cramped Bazaria centre with at least 130 other hawkers. None of them know, however, how long they are to be located there.

Sundry shop owner Dhaiful Amran Kasim, 38, owned a roadside stall along Jalan Pantai Permai for over 3 years.

Nong Chik:Kampung Baru will only be developed if the landowners and heirs agree to it

Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin reiterated that Kampung Baru will only be developed if the landowners and heirs agree to it.

He said although Kampung Baru Development Corporation Bill 2011 was passed by Dewan Rakyat last week, the approval of landowners and heirs is more important to the government.

“If the landowners and heirs don’t agree to it, we will stop the project. We  will only develop areas that get their approval.

“This is unlike claims by the opposition that we seize land from the owners and heirs who get a small profit while the developer makes a big profit,” he said at mini kindergarten convocation in Pantai Dalam here yesterday.

IMF doesn't have enough to bail out Europe, collapse possible

IMF chief Christine Lagarde said Monday the fund had adequate resources to deal with the debt crisis affecting the world economy.

"I believe that today the IMF has adequate resources," Lagarde told Europe 1 radio after some member nations of the G20 meeting in Paris on Friday and Saturday called for increased resources for the world body.

The United States said an increase was unnecessary.

Asked what she considered an adequate level of resources for the International Monetary Fund, Lagarde declined to give figures.

Rich and emerging G20 economies meeting in Paris committed to ensuring that the IMF has adequate resources to meet its responsibilities and said they looked forward to debate the issue during the G20 summit in Cannes, France, November 3 and 4.

Chavez dying of cancer, experts say he has two years

Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez likely has less than two years to live, his former doctor said, as the ailing firebrand traveled to Cuba for a checkup following cancer treatment.
Chavez, 57, has been through four rounds of chemotherapy in Cuba since revealing he had a cancerous tumor removed in June. But Venezuela has provided few details about the exact nature of the cancer, aside from that it was in the pelvic area.
Salvador Navarrete, his former personal surgeon, told Mexican newspaper Milenio Semanal on Sunday that the leader's condition likely was worse than publicly admitted.

Time to rethink the model of public education

Public Education is a new thing in human history, we have had it only since the Industrial revolution and it was born of the economic need for an educated population to work the economy and also on the back of the Enlightenment.

However the reasoning for state-issued education may have run its useful course, perhaps it is time to rethink how we educate our children, taking into account the pace of development and the speed of information circulation.

I don't think we can continue to create jelly mould kids education that lasts 12 years, we should start looking at customisable and modular education that starts in primary school to allow for different interests and abilities.

More dirt on MAS-Air Asia share swap

Air Asia getting a large chunk of Malaysia Airlines shareholding is making a lot of people upset, not least because they saw how Tony Fernandez screwed the Rural Air Service after being given the rights some years ago.

This time around it does look that His Tonyness is doing the same to Firefly, MAS's fledgling but increasingly popular low-cost arm.

MAS's sponsorship of WPR (Tony owns QPR) days after the share swap and change in directors also stank the news pages.

Pakatan budget unrealistic?

A Shadow Budget is typically more populist than the one tabled by the Government of the day because the Opposition is trying to unseat the Government and they do not have to actually implement the budget.

This time around, Pakatan has come up with a RM220billion budget that offers many goodies to the people but some are sceptical that there is enough money to be shared so generously with the average Malaysian.

PAS Supporters' Club: Hudud is unpopular and inappropriate

Actually they said selling Hudud now is like selling ice cream on a rainy day.

“Pas needs to think as politicians and look at all angles. How sure are they that hudud will not be used and manipulated by rival parties? How will talk about hudud benefit Pas now?” asked Pas Supporters Club president Hu Pang Chow.

Hu believes matters relating to hudud should be resolved and put on hold first to avoid any conflicts within Pakatan Rakyat component parties and confidence among the public as well.

Pas youth head Nasruddin Hassan today said the party’s non-Muslim club’s stand about not understanding hudud is because they choose not to learn about it.

When contacted Nasruddin said: “The matter had been discussed from time to time ever since the Kelantan Syariah Law Enactment 1993, and we had been engaging the non-muslims, including representatives from DAP and liberal groups like Sisters in Islam."

Sekiranya mereka datang membaca enam bulan sekali, maka kadar bacaan perlulah dibahagi enam dan dicongak kadar bulanan sebelum dikali enam semula.

Saya akan menuntut TNB mengira bil saya semula pada hari Jumaat ini semasa membuat bayara, saya enggan membayar kadar yang tertera kerana ia adalah satu penganiayaan oleh TNB

Sri Lankan adds God to Oz anthem and angers thousands

Ruth Ponniah wrote it for her church 23-years ago
THOUSANDS of schoolchildren are being forced to sing an alternative version of the Australian national anthem that installs "Christ" as the country's head of state and removes any reference to the Southern Cross.

In a move that outraged parents' groups have labelled "disrespectful", some 50 Christian schools of mixed denominations have replaced the second verse of Advance Australia Fair with the lyrics, which begin, "With Christ our head and cornerstone, we'll build our nation's might", for school assembly renditions.
The contentious version was penned 23 years ago by Sri Lankan immigrant Ruth Ponniah, 75, who now lives in Sydney, as part of her local church's bicentennial celebrations and is now sung in schools including the Penrith Christian School, St George Christian School, Westmead Christian Grammar School and Bethel Christian School in Mt Druitt.
Federal Education Minister Peter Garrett has admonished the unauthorised words, saying that under national protocols the anthem should not be modified and that the alternative verse had no place in the state's educational institutions - regardless of their religious affiliations.

Delivery man's death made S. Korea cry

Delivery man earning $775 per month donates portion of income to needy

The death of a Chinese food delivery man who regularly donated a portion of his small salary to help the needy is touching the heart of the nation.

People he barely knew have attended his funeral, expressing condolence. They praised him for carrying out the spirit of sharing despite living on a shoestring budget.

Kim Woo-su, 54, died Sunday, two days after his motorcycle collided with a car while on a delivery run. Though Kim scratched a living as a delivery man of a small Chinese restaurant, he had given part of his salary to children in need through Child Fund Korea since 2006. He had earned 700,000 won ($600) a month from the restaurant in the southern Seoul town of Ilwon.

No one is safe from Uncle Sam's Assassins

US Government slams by politicians and human rights group for assasinating top US-born Al-Qaeda member

Is this the world we want? Where the president of the United States can place an American citizen, or anyone else for that matter, living outside a war zone on a targeted assassination list, and then have him murdered by drone strike.

This was the very result we at the Center for Constitutional Rights and the ACLU feared when we brought a case in US federal court on behalf of Anwar al-Awlaki's father, hoping to prevent this targeted killing. We lost the case on procedural grounds, but the judge considered the implications of the practice as raising "serious questions", asking:

"Can the executive order the assassination of a US citizen without first affording him any form of judicial process whatsoever, based on the mere assertion that he is a dangerous member of a terrorist organisation?"

What is even more shocking is that some believe Al Awaliki is a CIA plant inside Al Qaeda

Big Brother tells youtube to yank protest videos

  • The British Government, joins the ranks of China for telling Google-owned Youtube to yank off videos of public protests.

In a frightening example of how the state is tightening its grip around the free Internet, it has emerged that You Tube is complying with thousands of requests from governments to censor and remove videos that show protests and other examples of citizens simply asserting their rights, while also deleting search terms by government mandate.

The latest example is You Tube’s compliance with a request from the British government to censor footage of the British Constitution Group’s Lawful Rebellion protest, during which they attempted to civilly arrest Judge Michael Peake at Birkenhead county court.

China warns India not to look for oil in South China Sea

An Indian national oil company JV with Vietnam is at stake and China is not kidding here

China wants everything inside the red line
China has warned India against collaborating with Vietnam over oil and gas exploration in the disputed South China Sea. The warning comes as reports suggest an Indian state-owned oil producer is about to start joint exploration of gas resources despite protests from Beijing, the official Global Times has reported.

It’s a reminder of the dangers that still exist in the Sino-Indian relationship.

Global Times quoted Jiang Yu, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, as stating that ‘as for oil and gas exploration...we are opposed to any country engaged in the waters under China’s jurisdiction. We hope foreign countries do not get involved in the South China Sea dispute.
