According to The Economist, if you add up every country's exports, they don't tally with the world's total import. In fact according to their bean counters, the entire world exported USD331 billion more than it imported in 2010. Now that is a lot of fibbing and fiddling with numbers.
Or maybe we have been exporting to Mars and our Governments have been keeping it all a top secret and all those UFO sightings are just interstellar container vessels coming to pick up some grocery, maybe we are the sweatshop of the solar system and don't even know it.
If we are not exporting to mars then it means that every country has been lying about its economic numbers. The gospel of Capitalism in the book of GDP and GNP is full of false claims.
If every country is lying about it's numbers, it simply means that we not making as much money as we claim as a global economy and this means that we have probably been in a depression or recession for a lot longer than we realise.
If we overstate our exports, there is every chance that we also understate our imports so the actual gap may be very different from what The Economist added up.
I wonder if it means that we, as a planet is far closer to an economic implosion than anyone would care to admit. Have we been lying to ourselves for far too long?
We probably don't have to wait very long to find out.
