KUALA LUMPUR: The 13 suspected Jemaah Islamiah (JI) members were arrested in Sabah's East Coast town of Tawau as they were seen as a threat to national security, said Inspector general of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar on Thursday.
He said seven of them were Malaysian. He did not reveal the nationalities of the foreigners.
He said in a statement that all of them were arrested between Monday night and Tuesday after observation.
“If we do not stop the activities by the group, it could become a threat to national security,” he added.
All of them are being detained under Section 73 of the Internal Security Act 1960.
